Hollies Mascots

Back in January my friend Pat, who is the Rowan Design Consultant in John Lewis Nottingham, mentioned that a friend of a friend of a friend was looking for someone to design and make some knitted ‘mascots’ for their nursery!

Hollies nursery happens to be just around the corner from me, and they were looking for mascots to fit in with their ‘Forest School’ activities, helping children to develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.

I love the concept of forest schools and I’m really excited about creating the little mascots which will be used for play, education and as an aid for communication for the younger children who are developing language.

I’ve got the yarn and can’t wait to get started!

squirrel yarn

Rowan Fur and Patons Extrafine DK will become a grey squirrel with a black nose, eyes and mouth.

owl yarn

These yummy shades of Patons Diploma Gold DK will become an owl with a fair-isle tummy. Blue owls do exist – I found one on pinterest!

hedgehog yarn

And Rowan Fur in brown will make the back of a hedgehog, with a Beige Diploma Gold tummy, head and feet and dark brown features.

With a little knitting help from Pat and Steph, I will be making 9 of each little mascot. I’m looking forward to showing you 27 finished mascots!
