New for Yarndale – Hexi Blanket!

It’s a slightly early blog this week because I know that some of you like to plan your shopping pre-Yarndale...

As well as Frank the Fox knit kits, you can also get your hands on my brand new Hexi Blanket pattern!

Rowan Summerlite DK has the most gorgeous colour palette and I enjoyed working on the Hexi Placemats for Cute Comfort Knits so much that the hexis just developed into a blanket.

I don’t know about you – but I love snuggling up on the sofa with a blanket… even during a heatwave. The Hexi Blanket is a great weight snuggly sofa blanket all year round or a lovely extra layer on the foot of your bed in colder months.

The pattern also has a smaller size which would be perfect as a baby blanket… and if you shop with me at Yarndale you can enter a giveaway to win an exclusive Small Hexi Blanket Knit Kit worth £62!

If you can’t make it to Yarndale or just prefer your patterns in a digital format – fear not! The Hexi Blanket will be available as a downloadable PDF shortly after Yarndale.

Summer Tie

I’ve been busy working away on a cardigan and beaded top for our wedding in August, but took a bit of time out to knit Beardie a tie to wear on the big day! And it was the perfect opportunity to re-work the Tweed Tie pattern in a cotton yarn.

Jem Weston | Summer Tie knitting pattern

I’ve been using Rowan Summerlite DK a lot recently and I love it! Using a DK on 2.75mm needles might sound like madness… but Summerlite is quite a fine DK and using it on small needles gives a great firm texture for a tie.

It’s a lovely weight so it drapes nicely and doesn’t flap about in the wind! The tight tension and sideways knitting will also help it to keep it’s shape and not grow over time.

The Summer Tie is available to download as a PDF pattern for £3.50 and also as kits in either Ocean or Rouge.

Bobby Scarf, Hat & Mitts

Introducing Bobby Scarf, Hat and Mitts – the latest addition to my Men’s Collection.

With three patterns in one, the simple stripey designs are perfect for a new knitter and would make a lovely Christmas gift. If you want a little challenge – you can follow the optional instructions for a tubular cast on!

Knitted in some of my favourite shades of Felted Tweed – Bobby Scarf, Hat and Mitts are beautifully light and warm. The mitts keep your hands warm whilst leaving your fingers free and have a mitt cover for keeping extra toasty on winter walks.

Patterns are now available to buy here and kits will soon be available on my shop. Happy Knitting!

Moody Blanket Knit-Along

I’m very excited to be announcing the details of my new KAL for 2017!

The Moody Blanket will be a super cosy blanket and at the same time – a unique visual diary of your moods. Each square will represent a week and you will choose your colour for each day based on your mood. So some squares might be stripey and some plain – depending on how consistent your mood is throughout the week!

There are two lovely colourways to choose from – Moody Blues or Purple Haze. Each of the five colours has a little list of moods allocated to it and you can add to the lists if you’re in a mood that doesn’t fit. We will be using the beautiful Almerino DK by Rooster yarns which is a super soft and warm blend of Alpaca and Merino.

Starter packs are now available for pre-order over on my shop for £30. These will include the Moody Blanket pattern and one ball of each of the yummy shades to get you started. How much of each shade you use will depend on your moods so you will be able to purchase ‘top up’ packs with the shades you need throughout the year.

Starter packs will be posted out in December and the knit-along will begin on Monday 2nd January

You can choose to knit-along for six months and make a small Moody Blanket (approx 80cm x 120cm, using approx 22 x 50g balls), which would make a lovely sofa blanket. Or you can knit for a full year to make the large Moody Blanket (approx 120cm x 160cm, using approx 44 x 50g balls) which would sit nicely across a double bed to keep your toes toasty!

I will be knitting along with you throughout the year and you can chat with other Moody Blanket knitters and ask me questions over on my Ravelry group. I will also talk you through how to block, position and sew up your squares to create the finished blanket.

I can’t wait to see how everyone’s blankets look! Whatever mood we’re in – knitting is always comforting. I hope our Moody Blankets will help us spend more time thinking about how we feel and making sure we look after ourselves.

If you sign up for a Moody Blanket starter pack at Yarndale, you will receive free postage to the UK!

Steve Sheep

Shuggie Sheep first shot to fame at Yarndale in Sept last year. He’s a squishy, cuddly sheep and the lovely people of Yarndale couldn’t resist him!

But fame comes at a price. And after seeing all the attention Shuggie was getting –  Steve the Black Sheep (Shuggie’s long lost cousin) has come out of the woodwork looking for his moment in the limelight.

You can probably tell from his startled expression above that this is worrying Shuggie greatly. But being such a lovely sheep – he’s taking it all in his stride and has agreed to let Steve come along to Woolfest with us this week!

We’re not going to give Steve the media attention he so desperately craves, so he won’t be available online – just as a limited edition knit kit at Woolfest (and Yarndale if we have any left!).

See you at Woolfest! x
