Jem on tour!

It’s been a busy couple of weeks!

I’ve really enjoyed catching up with knitters who I’ve met before at workshops, shows and events and it’s been super lovely to meet some new people who have just discovered my patterns or are new to knitting.

A special bleat out to everyone who has brought along their knits from my patterns to events over the last couple of weeks! I love seeing your creations and how things look in different yarns/shades. I often forget to take photos so feel free to give me a nudge!

The busy season kicked off with afternoon tea at Black Sheep Wools. I had a lovely time and you can watch my pre-cake chat with Sara below. Apologies if you can’t hear me very well – there was some background noise and I’m a bit quieter than Sara (no offence Sara!).

Details of my green top here.

And then it was Yarndale! We had a bigger stand this year which gave us room to dance and also meant the slightly leaky roof wasn’t a problem because I could keep things away from the drips. Thank you everyone who came to say hello – I hope you’re enjoying your kits, yarn packs and books!

This week I took the Cosy Alpaca Knits over to Wales for a little book party at Yarn O’clock in Mold. A lovely customer brought along her beautiful Deer Cushion, Haggis Hedgehog and Smudge the Cat to show me – all knitted from Cute Comfort Knits.

I love Smudge as a ginger tom cat! And Haggis works perfectly as a pin cushion. All of the Cute Comfort Knits patterns are now also available individually on my Ravelry and Love Knitting shops.

Looking forward to seeing more of you at events and workshops over the next few weeks!

Afternoon Tea at Black Sheep Wools

Who fancies joining me for afternoon tea at Black Sheep Wools?

On Thursday 19th September I will be bringing along all the samples from my new book (launching in  August) for a relaxed afternoon of knitting and chatting. I’d love to see things that you’ve made from my patterns so please feel free to bring them for show and tell!

I love September with it’s early Autumn/back to school vibes – I always want to buy new stationary and plan new projects! So it’s the perfect time for knit-in.

We will work on an exclusive mini-project based on a pattern from my new book – so don’t forget your needles!

Yarn Shop Day 2019

It’s nearly Yarn Shop Day and there’s a huge number of shops taking part – including Knit Nottingham where I suspect plans might include party food and booze!

I’ll be missing out on the local Yarn Shop Day action though because I’ll be at Black Sheep Wools in Culcheth. It’s been a while since my last visit so I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone – come and say hello!

Rowan @ Black Sheep Wools

There will be lots happening on the day. Emma Varnam will be holding amigurumi drop-in sessions and sharing her top tips on crocheting characters and Cathy Wright will be running spinning wheel demonstrations throughout the day.

I will be running mini finishing classes including shaping, mattress stitch and picking up stitches – followed by a sewing-up drop-in clinic from 2:30pm until 3:30pm… bring your sewing-up queries and form an orderly queue!

I’m very happy to announce the first couple of events I have planned for 2019!

On 27th April you will find me celebrating Yarn Shop Day with the lovely people at Black Sheep Wools. Feel free to pop along to one of drop-in finishing technique classes – you can find more details on my events page here.

I’m really exited to say that I will be exhibiting at Woolfest again this year!

Rosie and I had a fab time back in 2016 and Beardie is looking forward to being my glamorous assistant this time. I love the Lake District and we’re planning to make a long weekend of it – so if you have any recommendations for good walks in the Cockermouth area please let me know.

I’m mostly looking forward to seeing all the lovely sheep!

I will hopefully be booking in more shows and a few workshops for Autumn/Winter – so keep your eye on my events page.

Hopefully I’ll see you soon!

Kaffe Colour

I had a wonderfully busy and colourful few days at Black Sheep Wools last week where they were hosting workshops and a lecture with Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably.

It started off on Thursday with a patchwork workshop where everyone planned out their quilts on Kaffe’s flannel grid-wall. The fabric clings to it so you can move things around and play about before doing any sewing. It’s like grown up fuzzy felt!

We had all the lovely new limited edition shades of Handknit Cotton chosen by Kaffe. You can see more and download the patterns here.

On the Thursday evening Black Sheep hosted an inspirational Kaffe colour lecture which included many wonderful images of Kaffes inspiration, knitting design, paintings, needlepoint and more!

We had some classic garments on display from the Kaffe archive, including the beautiful Holly from Rowan Magazine 50. Who else wants to knit this and hang out near some beautiful Acers?!
